Ha Giang Loop - Trekking & Experiences

Whether you want to ramble through the Yen Minh countryside, wander the rice fields of Meo Vac, hike through the Dong Van Stone Plateau, or soak in the cool Du Gia Waterfall, our tours are about stretching your legs, breathing in fresh air, and taking in the Ha Giang’s most impressive sights.

When to visit Ha Giang?

The most pleasant weather in Ha Giang is probably the spring months from March to May, when the rice fields are lush green, or the autumn months from September to October, when the fields turn a deep golden color.

Highlights of Ha Giang

Located about 300km north-northwest of Hanoi, Ha Giang is a remote and rugged land with breathtaking landscapes and scenery in every direction. Whether they are looking for culture, nature or adventure activities, Ha Giang will remain the ideal destination for exploration.

Ha Giang - iconic handicraft

Ha Giang, a mountainous province of Vietnam, is a veritable treasure trove of artisanal traditions. Each ethnic group, especially the H'Mong and the Dao, contributes to the richness of a unique cultural heritage.

Ha Giang - Ethnic markets

Ha Giang’s ethnic markets are more than just tourist destinations; they open a window into the soul of traditional Vietnam, a vibrant tapestry of commerce and culture. Each visit is a unique opportunity to explore a living heritage where the authenticity of the exchanges is matched only by the beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Dong Van Karst Plateau

Dong Van Karst Plateau is one of the special limestone areas of Vietnam, preserving outstanding imprints depicting the development of the earth's crust. This is a spectacular place listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List with beautiful passes such as Ma Pi Leng Pass, rivers and ethnic villages. Dong Van Geopark is home to 17 ethnic groups, creating a unique and rich cultural heritage worth visiting.

The Nho Que River

The Nho Que River is a breathtaking natural wonder that flows through the dramatic landscape of Vietnam's Ha Giang province, including the iconic Ma Pi Leng Pass. Offering a unique perspective, a boat tour along this river provides an amazing experience you won't miss in your Ha Giang Loop.

Ma Pi Leng Skywalk

The views from the Ma Pi Leng are unparalleled in Vietnam, offering a truly amazing experience. However, if there is only one specific point to choose, it would be the viewpoint at the Ma Pi Leng Sky Walk. Here, you’ll find a rock jutting out over the cliff, creating the perfect opportunity to capture breathtaking photos. Additionally, the skywalk provides a unique vantage point from which you can admire the main road meandering through the pass from above.

Twin mountains

The Quan Ba Pass offers not just one, but two stunning viewpoints. As you approach from Ha Giang City, the first viewpoint awaits at the top of the pass. Continuing along the pass, halfway down, you’ll discover a convenient parking area. From there, a set of stairs leads you to the second viewpoint, offering a mesmerizing perspective of the Twin Mountains. These two nearly identical mountains, with their rounded shapes, stand side by side, earning the endearing nickname “Fairy Breast Mountain.”

Lung Cu Flag Tower

Perched atop a mountain, the Lung Cu Flag Tower marks the northernmost point of Vietnam. From this viewpoint, you can enjoy a panoramic 360-degree vista of the surrounding mountains, countryside, and quaint villages belonging to the Lo Lo ethnic group. What sets this viewpoint apart is its distinct feature of offering a glimpse of both Vietnam and China in the distance.

All you need to know about Ha Giang Loop

What is the Ha Giang loop?

Renowned as one of Southeast Asia's most remarkable overland journeys, the Ha Giang loop is a must-try for passionate backpackers. The route spans approximately 350 kilometers, starting from Quan Ba, passing through Yen Minh, Dong Van, Meo Vac, and finally returning to Quan Ba.

This captivating road winds its way through valleys, high passes, abysses, geological faults, and canyons. Its notable highlight is the renowned Ma Pi Leng Pass, one of Vietnam's four majestic mountain peaks. On a Ha Giang loop tour, travelers will encounter 22 ethnic groups, each with their distinct cultural heritage and delectable cuisine, adding to the allure of the journey.

How long does it take to have an adventure along the Ha Giang loop?

While the Ha Giang loop tour from Hanoi can be completed in three days, allocating four or five days is recommended to savor the experience fully. Below is a recommended Ha Giang loop itinerary for your seamless journey:

Ha Giang to Yen Minh: 100 kilometers, 3 hours driving

Yen Minh to Dong Van: 50 kilometers, 1.5 hours driving

Dong Van to Meo Vac: 30 kilometers, 1 hour driving

Meo Vac to Du Gia: 70 kilometers, 3 hours driving

Du Gia to Ha Giang: 70 kilometers, 2.5 hours driving

When is the best time to explore Ha Giang Loop?

The best time to do the Ha Giang loop motorbike adventure is from late September to November. Traveling to Ha Giang during this time of the year, tourists can admire the terraced fields of golden rice.

In December, the weather starts to get cold but you can enjoy the misty valleys, enchanting winter foliage, and a serene ambiance offered by the Ha Giang loop in December.

Also, you can experience the Ha Giang loop from January to March, when the town is in the dry season with minimal rain. You can indulge yourself in the festive atmosphere of the Lunar New Year at this time of the year.

How long does the Ha Giang Loop take?

he Ha Giang Loop can be done between 2 to 4 days. However, we think 2 days is a bit too rushed to experience everything that this loop has to offer. The most common length is 3 days/2 nights, with 4 days/3 nights offering a more relaxed pace.
